RANGER BEGINS!
I finally started work on RANGER. It has been months that I have been conceptualizing the game, trying to figure it out. I still have some things to figure out, but it can wait.
As I imagine, a lot of you will ask me WHY? Why RANGER? Well, I wanted a video game that would have a 2D Pixel Art Aesthetic and simplistic controls (so simplistic you can play the game on your phone with just one hand, at least that’s the plan) but at the same time be deeply rooted in story. My goal with this game is not only to have great cut scenes but to just have a very cinematic gameplay experience.
Since I wanted such a strong art direction on RANGER I started with making the game art. I decided that to start actually making the game (writing the code) I would need at least three character animation (not including the mirrored animations).
The first animation had to be the Idle. It took me two redraws of the playable character (Dathon) before I settled on his look. The first time Dathon looked much skinnier and fragile (not a typical action hero). There are still many tweaks to make to the appearance of Dathon, but this is a good start. The Second animation was the Run and the third was the Jump. For the third action I decided to just go with one still image (it will be an animation later).
I want to create a video game that will have a 2D Pixel Art Aesthetic and simplistic controls, so simplistic, in fact, you can play the game on your phone using only one hand, but at the same time have the game be deeply rooted in story.
Here is some footage of what the game looks like right now:
There is still much more to do. I haven’t even begun to crack the surface of this video game. If you want to keep up to date with Ranger’s Progress be sure check back here regularly. I will be posting an update every Monday! Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
Until next week, KEEP ON CREATING
